CropNimble vs remove.bg

Every comparison on this site starts from the one thing none of these tools can match: with CropNimble, your photos never leave your computer. The rest is what each tool is for, and what it costs.

Before you compare: remove.bg has announced that from 1 December 2026 at 09:00 CET its standalone website and accounts close, its self-service API stops accepting requests, its Photoshop plugin and other integrations are discontinued (the desktop and Android apps depend on that API), background removal moves into Canva, and any unused credits expire that day; enterprise API contracts continue. If you are here looking for a remove.bg alternative for cropping product photos, read on; if you need background removal, the replacement remove.bg itself points to is Canva. remove.bg’s announcement.
In shortremove.bg is a cloud background remover: the website, the desktop app and the Photoshop plugin all send your photo to its servers, and the company has announced the standalone service closes on 1 December 2026, with unused credits expiring that day. CropNimble does a different, narrower job — it finds the item in a product photo shot on white and crops to it, in bulk — and does it entirely on your own computer, with a free version and Premium at a flat $18.99 a month instead of credits.

Where your photos go

The difference that decides it for a lot of people. Everything in the right-hand column is quoted from remove.bg’s own pages, with the link.

CropNimble

Nowhere. The photos stay on your PC.

  • The AI model that finds the item is inside the program and runs on your own graphics card or processor. There is no upload code to switch off.
  • No analytics, no telemetry. The free version needs no account at all.
  • Premium signs in with your email to check your subscription. That check carries your sign-in and the app’s version number, never a photo, and Premium keeps working for 10 days between checks.
  • Apart from that, the program only asks cropnimble.com for a small version file, and you can turn that off in Settings.
  • Said in writing: the privacy page and the licence agreement.

Uploaded to remove.bg’s servers, every time.

  • There is no local mode. Its general terms: "The Service is only available on the internet; the function of the Service therefore depends on a functioning internet connection." source
  • The Windows, Mac and Linux desktop app is a front end to the same servers: "Images are processed through the remove.bg API, which requires an active Internet connection and an API key." source
  • Its privacy policy says uploads are deleted "shortly after" processing and that data is "stored and processed in Europe and any other country" where Canva or its providers have facilities; a company post gives the window as "typically within 60 minutes". source
  • Its help centre says uploads are not used to train the AI unless you opt in — while its privacy policy reserves the right to "analyze your activity, content, media uploads" to train its models, and its terms take a perpetual, royalty-free, sublicensable licence over your input and output "to the extent necessary to provide" the service. source

Which one, honestly

remove.bg is the better choice when
  • You need the background gone — a transparent PNG to drop on a coloured page. CropNimble keeps the white backdrop; it crops, it does not cut out.
  • Your photos were not shot on white: a product on a wooden desk, a person, a car. CropNimble is built for white backgrounds and is not promised on anything else.
  • You need it inside Photoshop or through an API this autumn — though the plugin and the self-service API end on 1 December 2026 (enterprise API contracts continue).
CropNimble is the better choice when
  • Your job is cropping, not cutting out: a folder of white-background listing photos that need to be tight, square and consistent.
  • You would rather the photos stayed on your computer — no upload, no credit counter, no licence over your photos granted to anyone.
  • You want a flat price instead of credits: Premium crops as many photos as you like for $18.99 a month, the free version exports 15 a day for nothing, and neither depends on a service that is closing.

What it costs over time

remove.bg sells credits: one credit per full-resolution image. Pay-as-you-go, 200 images cost $99; a 200-image-a-month subscription is $39 a month, with unused credits expiring at the end of each billing period. Two hundred photos a month is a small shop.

How CropNimble is priced

The free version is $0 and needs no account: the same crops at full resolution, with no watermark, limited to 15 exports a day and 15 Accurate-model crops to try. Premium removes the limits and adds the watch folder and Split Items, for up to three computers: $18.99 a month, with the first 14 days free, or $198.99 a year. No credits, and cancel anytime. Switching takes five minutes

  1. Download and unzip. No installer: unzip the folder and run CropNimble. It is signed, needs nothing else installed, and starts as the free version, with no account.
  2. Drop a folder of photos in. Press Batch Auto-Crop All. Each photo is cropped to its item; anything the program is unsure of gets an amber dot so you can glance at it.
  3. Export. Square or not, JPEG, PNG or WebP, with a size limit if your marketplace wants one. The originals are untouched.

Questions people ask

Is CropNimble a remove.bg alternative?

If what you want from remove.bg is tidy product photos from white-background shots, yes: CropNimble finds the item and crops it, square and evenly margined, across a whole folder, on your own computer. If you need the background removed to transparency, CropNimble is not that tool — it keeps the white backdrop.

Is remove.bg shutting down?

remove.bg’s own FAQ says that from 1 December 2026 at 09:00 CET its standalone website and accounts will no longer be available, the self-service API stops accepting requests and the Photoshop plugin and other integrations are discontinued; background removal moves to Canva and API access to Leonardo.ai (enterprise API contracts continue), and unused credits expire that day. CropNimble runs on your own PC, and its free version needs no online service at all.

Does the remove.bg desktop app keep my photos on my computer?

No. remove.bg’s own page for the Windows/Mac/Linux app says images are processed through the remove.bg API, which requires an internet connection and an API key — the app uploads each photo. CropNimble’s cutout model is inside the program and runs on your own graphics card or processor; nothing is sent anywhere.

Does remove.bg use my photos to train its AI?

remove.bg’s help centre says no, unless you opt in to its Improvement Program; its privacy policy separately reserves the right to analyse content and uploads to train its models, and its terms grant it a perpetual licence over your input and output to the extent needed to provide the service. CropNimble never receives your photos, so the question does not arise.

How much does remove.bg cost per photo?

One credit per full-resolution image. On its pricing page in October 2026, 10 credits cost $9, 200 cost $99 and 1,200 cost $399 pay-as-you-go; subscriptions run from $9 a month for 40 credits, and unused subscription credits expire each billing period. CropNimble has no per-photo price: the free version exports 15 photos a day at no cost, and Premium is unlimited for $18.99 a month or $198.99 a year.

Is the free version of CropNimble really free?

Yes. It makes the same crops as Premium, at full resolution, with no watermark and no account, and may be used commercially; it is limited to 15 exports a day and 15 runs of the Accurate model in total. remove.bg’s free tier gives 0.25-megapixel previews for personal use.

Try it on your own photos first. The free version makes the same crops, with a daily limit — no account, no upload, no card. Premium is free for 14 days.
